UNF Art in the Library Project

Our favorite, on-going, volunteer, curatorial, development project in the works is the creation of a museum-caliber collection of legacy pieces painted and crafted by the greatest artists in North Florida’s modern art history.  Viewing this evolving collection begins with Memphis Wood and Charlie Brown’s works from the 1950-60s, and powerfully thrusts forward through the years to important artists such as John Bunker and Louise Freshman Brown arriving on the scene in the 1970s, then capturing the 1980s introduction of wildly colored Florida landscape art in Jim Draper and punk art by Lee Harvey, then showcasing the evolution of modern photographic print making by Jerry Uelsmann in the 1990s, and culminating in the 21st century by a treasure trove of North Florida creators so talented and important we asked them to leave their lasting legacy now.

This month we added the stellar works of Susanne Schunke, Anthony Whiting, John Bunker, Carole Mehrtens, Debbie Pounders, Dee Roberts, Toni Charneco, Madeleine Peck Wagner and Megan Cosby.

With a three year history of development behind us and a current appraised value exceeding $230,000, this collection will be complete December 2012 and will be the only professionally curated Art Historic Artists of North Florida Art Collection in existence.  To view the collection, please visit the Thomas G. Carpenter Library at The University of North Florida.
